Paper Rosette Letter

Hey! I have been working on a small project the last couple of days.......yes I said days because it took what seemed like FOREVER!
It really wasn't all that bad really. When you look through this post you will see what took the most time.
I have seen different pictures of these paper rosettes used on all kinds of stuff like wreaths, Christmas stuff, home decor, etc.......
I had this letter B cut out of wood by my wonderful husband.  It had been sitting on my porch for quite a while looking pretty bare. So I decided to do this!

Pretty cute huh?

I tried to remember to take pictures as I was making this so I could make you guys a tutorial. :)

Supplies: Letter (wood, cardboard, etc...)
Old book
Scissors
Hot glue gun

First you want to start with your letter.......this could be out of wood, cardboard, pretty much anything you can get your hands on.

My husband had already spray painted it for me from last year which if you didn't have spray paint on hand I don't think that it would really matter since you are going to be covering the whole thing anyways.

You are going to need an old book.....I went to the goodwill & got a few for $2 each. The books that I got are pretty thick & I only ended up using about half of one book for this project. When you get your book home go ahead & take the front & back covers off. You are not going to use these on this project but I have set mine aside & will use them for something else. The book I bought was hardback so I thought I might be able to use it for a purse bottom? We will see. :)

Tear out several sheets (trust me you are going to need them). I started out only tearing off a page at a time & cutting out one circle at a time. I ended up tearing out several sheets & cutting out 4 or 5 circles at one time & then just separating them afterwards. For this particular book I got 1 to 2 circle (spirals) to a sheet.  Cutting the spirals different sizes make the roses smaller or larger which makes for a variety.

In the picture above you cannot really tell how the circle is cut out very well. So maybe this one below will help?

Sorry...this is what takes forever!
You want to take the tail of the circle (on the outside) & start rolling it  around & around...........& around.......& around..... ;)
I bet I made 100 of these little guys...ended up with a few extra that I used for spots that didn't get covered quite as well as I would have liked them to.

Once I had it all rolled up I sat it on the table & let it go!
There is your rosette.

Hot glue them on any design you like & will have an awesome paper rosette letter.

Haven't decided exactly where I am going to put it yet.
I was thinking of hanging it on our front door but without spraying it with some kind of sealer ....don't think that it would hold up in the weather even though our porch is covered. Will be fun to find a place for it!

Thanks. :)

Roll-up cosmetic brush holder

Shhhh...... I made this really cute brush holder for my sister (which I haven't sent to her yet) :(
I don't remember the measurements right off but as soon as I can get that together I will put a tutorial together!

Its fun because you can roll it up & pack it in a cosmetic bag or just throw it in your suitcase.

Was fun to make & WHEN I send it to her I am sure she is going to like it! :)

I haven't forgot about you!

Well I know that it has been a LONG time since my last post. I had alot going on in December....... which is no excuse for not getting at least one post in there. Sorry :( I hope that everyone had a blessed holiday!

I have recently joined Pinterest which has became very addicting. There are so many neat DIY ideas that I would like to try. I have found myself getting a bit overwhelmed with the amount of projects I would like to attempt so I need to come up with a game plan to make it a bit more fun. I think what I am going to do is to go through all the DIY that I have pinned & come up with a month to month schedule. Tackle a few crafts in one month & more the next month. I just get so excited about all the neat things that you are able to create without spending a ton of money! We shall see how this turns out. :) I hope to share with you...... any tutorials that I can come up with throughout the year on DIY'S.

Another project that I would like to get started on is my CRAFT/SEWING room! :) This will also be a playroom for my little guy. My husband has approved me to have the bonus room above the garage. For now I think I am going to take one of the bedrooms downstairs until we have a little extra $$$$ to complete the bonus room. haha. I have been searching & searching for great organization ideas & storage for this room.

<3 this! Having a large flat surface to work on would be awesome. I know my husband gets tired of coming home & seeing the kitchen table & countertops filled with projects I am working on. :)

I like the idea of having all ribbon together like this but not sure if I really care for those white wire baskets enough to go out & get some. I might have to think on that one a bit for another storage solution.

Hummm.....wonder if my husband would be up for making me some storage cabinets!?!

The storage container in the above photo I found @ Wal-Mart for $.96 each!

It will be lots of fun to try & get things to come together. I am one of those people that wishes things could get done in one day & look like you want them too right away. I have already got a coat of paint on the walls (paint left over from the garage). The color is a tan which will work just fine for when I do convert the room back into a bedroom!

I will try my best to give updates on craft/sewing room progress.

Easy Felt Pine Cone Tutorial

This is a simple & pretty quick craft project!
Gather supplies..........
Hot glue gun
Brown felt (i used the 8.5 X 11 sheets)
Scissors
Embroidery Thread (I call it cross stitch thread)
Rotary Cutter & Mat
Small egg shaped Styrofoams

 cut 1" strips from felt
I want to say it took 4 strips per pine cone

I'm not really sure if this has a name but make your
strips look like this! :)

Making a loop....glue a piece of your embroidery thread to one side of you strip.

You only need to do this is you plan on using them for ornaments.

Just start rolling the strip up

Once your almost done rolling it up put a good bit of glue on the bottom to stick to the styrofoam. Hold this down for a fewseconds because it tends to rise up.

Keep wrapping each new piece around the styrofoam (placing glue at the beginning of each strip). When you reach the bottom it should look something like
this.

You could add small pieces to the bottom to cover up
the last little bit of styrofoam but found this works just as good.
Cut something like this.............

Glue in place & there you go!
A very cute pine cone ornament. :)

You could also make a bunch of these & put them in
a clear glass vase which would be very neat.

Right now since I don't have my tree up yet I have them sitting on our mantle with the strings tucked in behind them. I am trying to drag out the Christmas decor this week to put out so my mantle doesn't look so plain.

I thought these would also make neat Christmas
gifts! Trying to think of a fun gift to give a close friend or neighbor? You just might be getting pine cones for Christmas! :)
